What We Did This Summer

Six weeks from July to August we have a summer program that focuses on getting our students ready for their next grades, shortening the academic gap that occurs between June and September.  For the past four years we’ve concentrated on science with the financial support of Santa Monica Parks & Trails.  Each summer there is an emphasis on the environment and the world.  This year we added the skeletal system, Cedar Sinai’s Healthy Habits Program, and the Passport Project where students  virtually traveled to twenty-two countries to find three important facts.  All of this, along with math, language arts, reading, playing games, three field trips (California Science Center, Whale watching & The Aquarium of the Pacific), and art filled up the six weeks.

A special thank you goes out to those individuals who helped make this summer a successful one: Christelle, Michael, Tyler, Wesley, Julia, Melanie, Karishma, and Michelle G. You guys rocked!

We made it through our sixth summer of education and fun. YAY!

So Long, For Now

In May we had to say so long to two of our beloved students: siblings, Jose and Yenin.  Their father’s job had relocated to Indiana.  Jose was a budding comedian/actor and Yenin was our resident poet/model.    They, and their entire family, are missed every day.  Thank goodness for Skype, because we can never say goodbye.

5th Grade Day!

Three years ago one of our students suggested that there should be a special day just for fifth graders.  Thus, 5th Grade Day was born sponsored by The Zeitgeist Committee.  Well actually, the first two years it was a weekend that included, dinner, two movies, and either a trip to Golf ‘n Stuff or Universal Studios.  This year it was one full day at Universal.  As you can see from the photos, fun was had by ALL!  Thank you Debbie, Jared, London, Nikki, Cherish, and Alex.  We love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our Sixth Set of 5th Graders Culminate

Tears of joy were shed again for our sixth set of  fifth graders beginning their journey to the land of middle school. Certificates in hand, they’re ready to meet the challenges of 6th grade.  Congrats! You deserve the best.

Our 5th Graders Rock!

Congrats to our 5th grade students: Celeste, David, Alondra, Samantha, & Melbourne for receiving the President’s Educational Award and for getting into Palms Middle School. We knew you could do it!!!!!!!!

Saturday Video Workshop Comes to a Close for the School Year

Senior,  Jose Sicairos from Sante Fe High School, teaches his second to last video workshop for the school year.  In this workshop, Zeitgeist students learned how to code their main character.  Jose, originally, came here to teach math on Saturdays to fulfill his service requirements.  He loved the kids so much, he wanted to share his love of creating video games even after he completed the required hours. Talk about a committed young man.

Celeste’s Wish for Books
